Link Experiment

It’s been just over a year since I started the Link Experiment and with a link purchased today for $245, the site total has been boosted to $14,161. I’ve put the Link Experiment on the back burner for a while, but perhaps it’s time to breath some life into the site. I’m betting recent purchases have been made for SEO purposes. A $245 permanent link on the homepage of a PR 4 site, plus the added benefit that if the site ever gets popular again the link could pay off even more. At any rate, I think I’m going to try to start blogging some more just to get my ideas and thoughts out on paper. My new project is Diggy Games, I’m promoting it as a Myspace Games Site. I’ve had it around for like a year and a half, but haven’t done much with it. I’ll write more on this later.

After a long dry spell Link Experiment has sold 2 more links for $435 bringing the site’s grand total to $13,706. Maybe we will crack $15,000 afterall. The homepage still has a google pagerank of 5 and there are now multiple links that have been on the homepage for over 200 days. Killsometime.com has been on the homepage longest at 253 days.

as many of you know google updated its PR recently. The update has been kind to the link experiment upgrading the homepage to a PR 5 and updating the links page to a PR 3. So now buyers will get a PR 5 and a lifetime PR 3 when they buy a link from the link experiment.

So we have a new #1 link going to the 1234directory. The old #1 link had lasted 85 days on top but it’s reign of terror is over. However it is the dawn of a new era for the link experiment. In talks with the buyer I agreed that he could hold the #1 link for 4 weeks time. This might setup a new system for the link experiment whereby the #1 link will be guaranteed for a minimum of 1 month blocks. This may encourage more buyers when they know that their link won’t get booted after a day.

Who would have thought that 2 requests for the #1 bid in one day would turn out to be a bad thing? I received both requests via email and I had to warn both perspective buyers that there were 2 parties interested in the #1 link. I felt that I had to give warning that if they went ahead with a purchase they may only hold if for a few hours.

I’m working out a solution now. Unfortunately however it looks like one party will end up buying the link and the other party will end up walking away. On the plus side, still good to have a #1 link and still good to get the Link Experiment above the $13,000 mark.

I recently got an email from a guy interested in buying the #1 spot. This means 2 things. At least $401 more towards the Link Experiment and the Link Experiment will move over the $13,000 marker. Conversations with this webmaster have convinced me that it’s time to revitalize the link experiment. This site has gone through peaks and valleys from the very beginning and I think it’s high time for another major peak. Let’s get this baby back on top!

After going a long time not selling any links, Lifehoo.com has purchased a link for $100. Hopefully this will help breath some life back into the site. I’m taking a break from running now deciding that after running 10 years competitvely with my longest break being 3 weeks in that period, that it was time for a rest. I’m thinking about a few months off, then maybe going for the Chicago Marathon. We’ll see.

I did another interview that came out today. You can find it here. The site I did the interview at is brand new and a very good idea. It’s a site that interviews internet entrepreneurs. I had thought of the idea myself a while ago but this guy went out and made it happen. Kudos to him and good luck with his interview site.

Just an update on the Experiment, I made just under $400 since the last post and another note. The #1 link has now had the #1 spot for 39 days. Good for him, but I think he’s had his time in the sun. I’m pretty sure that’s the longest anyone has had #1 for. I was browsing for billboards again and I’m still toying with the idea of taking one out for Link Experiment, but we’ll see.

The Link Experiment just sneaked under 20,000 in the alexa rankings, woohoo! It stands at 19,892. The next big one would be 10,000, that is a very hard level to break into but we’ll see.

I’ve upgraded the affiliate program for link experiment so that any affiliate that sends a sale to link experiment will get $15. That rate should go up in hand with link sales. It shouldn’t be too long before the affiliate commissions will be at $25.

Link Experiment has been popping up around on various blogs and forums, I thought I’d include a couple that I’ve seen so far:

Here’s a site where you can pay to vote on whether the link experiment will succeed or fail: http://www.piddypine.com/linkexperiment.php The owner will use the money made, pick one of the sites that voted and purchase a link for them on the link experiment.

This site analyzes some of the latest link sites: http://www.squidoo.com/thenextbigthing#module1777159

this blog does the same: http://miscblogger.com/?p=17

another blogger that wrote a post on the link experiment: http://www.thedigeratilife.com/blog/index.php/2006/11/07/million-dollar-home-pages-galore/

and another: http://batflattery.blogspot.com/2006/11/new-million-dollar-page.html

and yes another: http://buzzbadge.blogspot.com/2006/10/buzzing-linkexperiment-next-million.html

i think there was a blog post in german about the site as well, but I can’t seem to be able to find it now. Sorry to anyone I forgot about, if you’ve got a post just email me and I’ll try to return the favor.
